Well, when I created my 101 things list I said that I planned to blog about the experience of completing the various things on the list. Since I'll be headed back east a bit earlier than planned, I'm sure there are some things on the list which simply won't be completed (like visiting all of the random, adjacent to SD states). But, I'll still tell you about the one I did complete this weekend!
On Sunday, my roommate and I took a drive to Hill City, SD, about 20 miles from Rapid City just north of Mt. Rushmore National Monument. The drive itself is already gorgeous, but this weekend we had a destination! Prairie Berry Winery. With the temptation of free wine sampling as our lure, and the promise of a delicious lunch from the Euro Deli we left the Cathedral parking lot and headed south.
I apologize in advance for sounding like an advertisement, but our visit to Prairie Berry was quite delightful. I was sad to discover that their Raspberry Honeywine, the only flavor I'd previously tried, was out of stock until the fall. But I still got to try a sampling of unique flavors like Gold Digger (pear flavored wine), Red Ass Rhubarb (their best seller), and 3 Rednecks (which supposedly pairs well with wild game, and is a frequent choice amongst hunters). My personal favorite was the Pink Slip, which our sommelier described as a combination of White Zinfandel and Catawba.
In addition to feeling incredibly grown-up, I got to sample several wines, had a delicious open-face avocado sandwich and sweet potato and sausage soup lunch, and to top it off we got a free dessert! I'll call #21 a complete success.
